blog #5

The Affordable Healthcare Act was signed into law on 2010 by president Obama. This plus other healthcare acts were supposed to reform the US healthcare system by lowering healthcare costs, making healthcare more affordable to everyone. The main idea behind it was the fact that people and parents of children, who suffer with pre-existing conditions could now have access to good healthcare coverage, as well as the many American’s who go every day without healthcare insurance could now have the opportunity to purchase healthcare coverage which in the end was supposed to cut down healthcare cost.

The first resource I am going to list is http://healthcarereform.procon.org/ , I am absolutely entertained and excited by this website because of the fact that the website presents the pros and cons of the Affordable Healthcare Act, you are writing on as well as providing us, the students, with valuable information regarding both sides of the argument and outs them into sorted categories to search through. This website presents a lot of key facts and issue’s to think about when considering whether or not the Affordable Healthcare Act is truly good for America. It also lay out what type of services the Act will cover and which services they won’t, which is important because there are a lot of “touchy” issue’s that deal with federal money being used to support these programs however not a lot of people really talk about any of these out in the open.

Image Analysis

This picture was posted on, CNN Politics website page I found the image very captivating as to where this individual stands on the affordable healthcare act. I feel like very many individuals are torn on the subject and so not know which way to turn, or which side to stand on, due to a lack of understanding. I think most of us can agree with the fact that no one other than president Obama has the full understanding as to what this bill is going to do to the American peoples' healthcare system and how this is going to affect the population at large. I have heard many articles on the subject of "a government controlled healthcare system" will only bring about a decline in the actual health services that we can receive, due to the specialty doctors and nurse practitioners going out of the county to practice law due to the opportunity to make enough money to cover what it cost them to go to school. You can simply look at Canada's healthcare, a government controlled healthcare system, and see a trend in similarities to what these "rumors" are stating. You can also talk to the people who currently have a government controlled healthcare system and most are saying that it was a mistake to allow the government to control their healthcare. I can honestly say I would much rather have kept the healthcare the way it was, even though I am an American citizen who could desperately use these benefits, I would much rather be able to find the assistance on my own then to have the government provide me with alternatives.

Research question Post #2

In the middle of the chaos surrounding the United States government, the Affordable Care Act has regained the spotlight with many American citizens. My main research question on the topic of the Affordable Care Act pertains to, will healthcare and the general wellness of American citizens benefit from a system overhaul? Currently I would respond to this by answering with a firm response of No, I see very many down falls to having the government control our healthcare system. One reason for this is the fact that most specialty doctors have already confirmed the fact that if this happens some will retire but most would take their practices else where due to the fact that would never make the money that they feel like they deserve for the money, energy, and time they put into their schooling so they could become a doctor.

Other's however, might argue that the Affordable Healthcare Act is great due to the fact that it provides benefits for people who would not normally have access to these benefits, as well as, it will force businesses to eventually have to provide all their workers with healthcare benefits. Some other points I would like to further look into on this topic would be how this Act effects individuals and families, and how will the Affordable Healthcare Act impact the still fragile economy?
